Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about watching, renting, and creating on Dolpho.
The basics
What is Dolpho?
Dolpho is an independent film platform where creators build Worlds (IP universes), upload their content, and set their own prices. Fans rent, buy, log, like, review, clip, and follow the Worlds they love.
What is a World?
A World is a creator's IP universe. Films, series, clips, merch, and discussion all live inside it. On Dolpho the World is the primary discovery unit, not the individual creator.
Do I need an account to watch?
Browsing is open. Renting, buying, logging films, reviewing, posting clips, and following Worlds require an account. Sign up takes a few seconds.
Renting and buying
How do rentals work?
A rental gives you a 30-day window to start watching. Once you press play, you have 72 hours to finish. Buying gives you permanent access with no expiration.
What are Quarters?
Quarters are Dolpho's pocket change. One Quarter equals 25 cents (1Q = $0.25). They're how you pay for small purchases without putting a fresh charge on your card each time.
Direct card charges have a $4 minimum. Anything under $4 (small rentals, tips, clips) runs through your Quarter balance.
Why is there a $4 minimum on direct charges?
Card processing fees eat most of a tiny direct charge. Bundling small purchases through Quarters keeps more money flowing to the creator instead of the payment processor.
Can I re-rent a film after my rental expires?
Yes. Once a rental expires, you can rent or buy it again from the same page. Your new rental starts a fresh 30-day window.
Do you offer refunds?
Refunds are handled case by case by Dolpho support. Email support@dolpho.net with the title, the date of purchase, and a short note about what went wrong.
For fans
What are Clips?
Clips are 60 seconds or shorter, free, and unlimited. Anyone with access to a film can post clips from it. Creators can pin favorites, mark official ones, and moderate replies.
Where do I find what I've watched?
Your Page lives at /u/your-username. You'll find your Diary, Collection, Watchlist, the Worlds you follow, your Clips, and your Badges all there.
Are my likes and reviews public?
You control it per tab. Each section of your profile (Diary, Collection, Watchlist, and so on) has its own privacy toggle in Settings.
For creators
How do I become a creator on Dolpho?
Visit /for-creators to start onboarding. You'll connect a Stripe account, claim a slug, and set up your first World.
How much does Dolpho take?
Dolpho charges a platform fee per transaction. The Stripe processing fee is split 50/50 between Dolpho and the creator, so neither side eats the full cost. Your effective take is shown when you set a price.
When do I get paid?
Direct card purchases transfer to your connected Stripe account immediately, minus the platform fee. Purchases funded by Quarters settle on a weekly payout, after a short holding window that lets refunds resolve cleanly.
Content and policies
How is video secured?
All video uses signed playback tokens with DRM. Direct video URLs are short-lived and tied to your session, which keeps creator work from leaking to public mirrors.
Where can I read the legal terms?
The Terms of Service, Creator Terms, and Privacy Policy are all linked in the footer.
I have a question that isn't answered here.
